Light Leak Agave (2018)

$75.00

This is a digital pigment print of a digital scan of a 35mm negative, originally taken at the Chihuahua Desert Nature Institute in Fort Davis, Texas, in the summer of 2018. This image was printed for the occasion of my solo show, In/Between | A Rock and a Hard Place: Visions from the Ghost World of how to Survive One’s Sovereignty of Self Destruction in a Land We Assumed We Once Knew, at the Rice Media Center at Rice University in the fall of 2019.

The image was shot on film, hand developed, then scanned using a Hasselblad Imacon Flextight scanner. The image was digitally printed in the fall of 2019 on an Epson P9000 large format printer. Please note: this image does have two slight rust stains on the top left and top right of the paper, outside the image itself, from where it was hung during the show with metal binder clips. Image is printed on Moab Entrada Rag Bright, 8.5 x 11 inches, unframed.

The unique shape and treatment of the image comes from light leaks within the camera while shooting; light shone through the sprockets of the film to create those instances of beams coming from the top and the bottom of the frame. Further, there was a problem with the emulsion of the film on the left hand side that caused parts of it to wash away during the development process.
